Heavy duty lathe SN 1800 × 8000

A heavy duty centre lathe built by 1 Mai Ploiești, the Romanian works that supplied much of the national oil and heavy industry with turning machines. The SN series is a conventional gear-head lathe made for long and heavy workpieces: shafts, rolls, drill collars and pipe.

The face plate measures Ø 1 800 mm. The machine turns up to Ø 1 780 mm over the bed and Ø 1 450 mm over the slide, takes 8 000 mm between centers and carries a workpiece of up to 20 tonnes. The spindle runs from 0.8 to 160 rpm — the low end of that range is what you need for large diameters in steel. The machine itself weighs about 30.5 tonnes.
