What it is and what it is good for.
A Shibaura HHA600B (S) gear hobbing machine built in Japan in 1977. It cuts wheels from Ø 1 200 mm up to Ø 6 000 mm in module 24, on a Ø 4 300 mm table that carries up to 70 tonnes — a load capacity few hobbers of any size can match.
The centre distance between hob and table spindle adjusts from 680 to 3 270 mm and the lifting saddle travels 2 000 mm vertically. The hob spindle runs continuously variable from 6 to 90 rpm, and the master worm wheel measures Ø 4 100 mm. The table has a Ø 1 000 mm centre hole.
Note the minimum gear diameter of Ø 1 200 mm: this is a machine built purely for large wheels — mill drives, kiln rings, crane slew rings, mining and cement gearing. Machine weight 140 tonnes.
