About this machine
What it is and what it is good for.
An oil country lathe built by SARO, Romania — a machine made for pipe, casing and tubing work. The main spindle is hollow with a bore of Ø 263.3 mm, so a length of pipe passes straight through the headstock instead of hanging out of the chuck.
It swings Ø 710 mm over the guideways and Ø 400 mm over the cross slide, with 2 000 mm between centres. The spindle runs from 4 to 500 rpm, driven by a 22 kW motor — the low speeds are what large-diameter threading on casing calls for. Machine weight 6 300 kg.
The lathe has had a general revision and new electrical equipment was fitted. It is in good working condition. Note that it is supplied without tailstock and without steady rest.
